Batumi

Batumi is the second-largest city of Georgia after the capital city Tbilisi, located on the coast of the Black Sea in the country's southwest. The capital of Adjara Province and the main Black Sea resort of Georgia.

There are so many cool things to do and places to visit in and around the city and most of all got in touch with the Georgian culture and got to meet lovely people.

  1. Enjoy a walk/bike ride or relax in the Batumi Boulevard

    Ali and Nino Monument

    Laid out in 1884 it’s now stretching 6km along the coast. On the way see some of the most notable sights of Batumi, such as Ali and Nino Monument – metal structure of man and women who meet and love each other beautifully lit at night. Then you will find large Ferris Wheel and the 145m-high Alphabet Tower – monument to Georgian old and unique script. Passing past many cafes and attractions you can watch many new towers on your left, new Radisson and Sheraton hotels and Georgia’s tallest building, the 200m-high Batumi Tower.







  2. Visit Europe Square

    Batumi has not only new modern buildings, its best buildings are 19th century buildings, from the period when the city was free port on the Caspian oil route to Europe and was flourishing. It got its name from the fact of joining Batumi to the Assemble of European Regions.

    The Statue of Medea (Greek mythology, Medea was the daughter of King Aeëtes of Colchis) was place at the centre of the square.

  3. The Batumi Botanical Garden

    108 hectare area of land 9 km north of the city of Batumi, capital of Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Georgia. Located at the place called Mtsvane Kontskhi ("The Green Cape") on the Black Sea shore, it is one of the largest and richest botanical gardens in the world.

    The Garden territory at present includes 9 phyto-geographical departments: East Asian, North American, New Zealand, South American, Himalayan, Mexican, Australian, Mediterranean (European) and Transcaucasia humid subtropics.

  4. Play with the dolphins at Batumi Dolphinarium

    If you are into marine wildlife look no further and visit the Batumi Dolphinarium. They present to its guests the new interactive show. It includes about 30 acts: three dances, playing with rings and balls, balancing on the tails, unforgettable Foot Push and many other new and old stunning moments.

    You can also get up close and personal and interact with these gentle creatures you have a chance to swim them from approximate 15 minutes at a minimal fee.

  5. Do try Wine and Adjarian Cuisine

    Viticulture (science, production, and study of grape) is an essential component of Georgian and Ajarian culture that has been cultivated for over hundreds of years. In total, there are around 50 different grape species that are still used in wine production to this very day. Wine in Georgia is less expensive with compare to it other European counterpart but it can be at same or even superior with taste.

    A traditional Georgian feast is a superb display of the diversity of Georgian cuisine, cooking techniques, table-setting traditions and other accompanying rituals. Ajarian cuisine is an inseparable aspect of Georgian cuisine; however the cultural influence of Asian cuisine can be clearly seen in a variety of Ajarian dishes. In mountainous Ajara, dairy products are common ingredients in many dishes. Boat-shaped Ajarian khachapuri is one of the most famous Ajarian dishes. Sweets also play an important role in Ajarian cuisine.

  6. Go to the beach

    Stretching from the Georgian Black Sea coast beach in Batumi are quite unique where you can enjoy the blue water of the Black Sea and the enjoy the scenery of the great Caucasus Mountains, which are very nicely visible in the springtime along the sea.

    Be reminded that most of the beaches in Batumi are stone beach (pebbles) so better bring appropriate footwear.
