Phuket – the biggest island of Thailand and sits on the Andaman Sea. A rain forested and mountainous island is a home to many high-end seaside resorts, spas and restaurants. Blue lagoons and salmon sunsets make for a dream-like atmosphere, and indeed, a vacation in the island can feel a bit surreal. As the word Phuket itself, its means – the mountain jewel.

The hottest place on the island is at Soi Bangla. Phuket is widely known for its outstanding beaches with beautiful soft sand, nodding palm trees, clean waters with a soft seabed, good surfing and snorkeling spots, and a fantastic laid back atmosphere. Few of Phuket’s beaches attract more people, but this doesn’t mean the beach has lost if natural beauty, but it depends on the holidaymakers what options they want. Almost all are lovely setting with great views across the bay and island.

POPULAR PLACE TO VISIT IN PHUKET

• Phuket Town – the central point of the island where colorful 19th century shops and houses and Sino-Portuguese buildings are still much preserved. The city features an exciting mix of old and new, simple and sophisticated, peaceful and pulsating.
• Patong – the largest beach resort on the island of Phuket with a world famous night life. This may not be a good destination for the average backpacker except in the rainy season when prices are far lower.
• Chalong Bay – Phuket’s principal boat anchorage and the largest bay in the island. Speed boats, fishing boats, snorkeling companies and yacht charges are located on this area. From this bay, you can go Coral Island, Phi Phi Island, and Koh Racha for day trips, diving and deep sea fishing.
• Kamala – travelers who prefer quieter life, this is the perfect spot. Friendly service and village feel and a diversity of restaurants and small bars can be found on the area. Cheaper food options/market stalls are available.
• Kata – a scenic gem with its clear water flanked by hills and the picturesque Pu Island sits offshore. This place is busy but clean tourist beaches with good surf, and split into Kata Yai and Kata Noi. Kata Beach safe for children and non-swimmers but always take notice of the flags that fly, and that you will know it it is not safe to swim. Lots of fun.

BEST TIME TO VISIT PHUKET

Phuket is hot and humid throughout the year.

The hot season is generally considered to be from March to early May. During the summer monsoon season from May to October, mornings and afternoons are still sunny and clear, but it tends to rain in the evenings and water clarity goes down.

Locals consider November to February the "cool" season, and the weather is quite tolerable, much more so than in the tourism centers around the Gulf coast. It's comparable to Florida's summer weather in temperature and intensity of rain storms: 25-33°C, flying clouds, short and thunderous rainfalls in the afternoons and evenings. Surfing is possible off the western beaches.
