What is a train ticket?

A train ticket is a travel document which enables you to travel on board a train. Train tickets for all high speed and night trains include your seat reservation.

How early can I book?

Train tickets are generally available 60 to 180 days before the date of your travel. The earlier you book your train ticket the better. You will get the cheapest fares and avoid your class of service being sold out by booking in advance.

How to get the best fares?

To get the best fares and save money, you need to book your train tickets in advance. Don’t wait for the last minute, as cheaper seats sell faster. Train tickets are available between 60 to 180 days in advance.

But there is another trick. You can get cheaper train tickets by choosing to travel during off peak times. They are more affordable than morning and evening trains along with those running on holiday eves, Friday and Sunday afternoon.

Trains in Europe

High speed trains: They can operate at a speed of up to 320 km/h. Being modern, comfortable and offering a high level of service, they are often the best way to travel long distances.

Night trains: Most of them operate on long distance routes. Amenities on board include a restaurant car, sleeping carriages, women-only carriages, restrooms etc. Night trains are often regarded as a practical way to save a night’s accommodation.

Scenic trains: Most scenic trains operate in Switzerland but other countries in Europe have equally interesting scenic trains. From the comfort of your seat, you will enjoy the best of European landscapes.

Regional trains: They are also known as local trains. The most common regional trains are the InterCitys. Most regional trains operate on medium distance routes and do not require a seat reservation.

Train tickets for all high speed and night trains include your seat reservation. Depending on the type of trains, you will be able to choose one of the three ticket printing options:

  • Paper ticket: We print your train ticket and ship it to you before you leave for Europe. A shipping fee applies.
  • Print @ home ticket: Your train ticket, which is issued as an e-ticket, is sent to your email address. You must print your ticket and have it with you at all times during your trip.
  • Print @ station ticket: Your ticket reference is sent to your email address. Use it to print-out a paper ticket from a self-service ticket machine at a train station in Europe.
