Adjacent to Flúðir is Hruni, the setting of one of
Icelands most famous folk-tales, the Dance at Hruni. On
Christmas night the pastor at Hruni did not celebrate Mass, but
held sinful dances instead. He ignored his mothers pleading
to give up this wickedness, and in the end the church was dragged
down into Hell, with pastor, revellers and all. The former church
site can still be seen at Hruni.
