Bhutan (with an area of 38,394 square kilometers) is a landlocked country in South Asia situated at the eastern end of the Himalayas. The country is bordered to the north by China and to the south, east and west by India. To the west, Bhutan is separated from Nepal by the Indian state of Sikkim, while further south it is separated from Bangladesh by the Indian states of Assam and West Bengal.
Bhutan's capital and largest city is Thimphu. The national language is Dzongkha, the native language of the Ngalops of western Bhutan. Two other major languages are the Tshanglakha and the Lhotshamkha. Bhutan has two main religions, Buddhism and Hinduism. Bhutanese currency is Ngultrum (Nu.) Indian Rupee is acceptable in Bhutan except Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes.
